Advocacy Project Adjustments
11/29/21
Hey guys! I'm back again to talk about my advocacy project. My first idea for the project was to use the media platforms of a poster, graffiti, and a podcast. I have now changed graffiti to a website because I feel like it is more fitting for my audience and for the message I am trying to send. At first, graffiti was something big and bold and sounded good but the more thought I put into my project and visual rhetoric, I realized graffiti is not something that is going to properly advocate for the class I am advocating for. I feel like parents normally view graffiti as vandalism and do not take it seriously which is the complete opposite of what I want.

I switched this media to a website because by creating a website I am able to attach links for the purpose of both educating on different mental illnesses and making self-help hotlines available. Also, I think a website seems more legitimate and serious which is the aim for mental health, mental illnesses should be taken seriously.

This website is available to anyone and everyone but is also heavily emphasized in Mental Health Awareness 102. The website is intended to be used for more in-depth education as the class covers different topics because the links attached are from an actual scientific point of view. I wanted to blog about this today because changing medias made me realize how much visual rhetoric is actually involved in my everyday life and my perceptions of messages and art I see on a daily basis. Graffiti was the only media I decided to change and I will be keeping the poster and podcast idea.
